You probably surmised that ‘Exit Splash‘ is a program which tracks the departing web surfer who will never come back.  As always it’s great to get a second opportunity to make a first impression and maybe even convince your visitor to buy.

Even though there are many kinds of exit splash software, they all fall into two main sections.

There is the type which grabs you on exit with a PHP or hover window flying in to catch your attention.  But you can still exit out the window by clicking the exit button.

Exit lockers are the gray windows type popups or little chat windows which prevent you from exiting from a site and need to be closed before you can leave a page. These are annoying to me when I use the internet, especially when they are advertising something that is of no interest to me.  Having to click on OK and then usually the next screen which says click OK to continue or cancel to go back to the page means 2 extra clicks for me when I wanted to get off of the page.

On the other hand, as a website operator similar to Dave Guindon, I want a chance to dazzle the people visiting my website.  So the question is “how do I do this with out annoying them?”

Of course, I have made reference to this before, but surely you want to validate the exit splash offer for your own needs.  Some of the sites I visit do quite well; if the do very well indeed I observe and learn in order to apply those tricks to my own web sites. As always you want to test a number of different exit offers to see which your users like best, basically what they respond to best.
